There are lots of different ways to talk about the present in English. One that you’ll see often is the present continuous tense. The present continuous tense is used to describe things that are happening right now, at this moment. For the things that will happen later, but we’re talking about them now (like making plans).
We can use the present imperfect tense for temporary situations rather than for permanent situations and universal truth as in simple present tense.
Present Continuous Tense-فعل حال جاری
ان جملوں میں کام کا جاری رہنا پایا جاتا ہے۔ ان کے آخر میں اکثر “رہا ہے” “رہی ہے” “رہے ہیں” “رہا ہوں” وغیرہ لفظ آتے ہیں۔
Present continuous Tense – Verb and Auxilary Verb
The present imperfect tense is formed using the auxiliary verbs (is, am, are).
We use (am) with first-person singular (I).
| I am eating an apple. | میں ایک سیب کھا رہا ہوں۔ |
While (is) is used with the third-person singular (He, She, It).
| He is planning to buy iPhone. | وہ آئی فون خریدنے کا سوچ رہا ہے۔ |
| The summer is getting hotter each year. | موسم گرما ہر سال گرم ہوتا جا رہا ہے۔ |
All the plural subjects use (are) as the auxiliary verb.
| They are playing cricket right now. | وہ اس وقت کرکٹ کھیل رہے ہیں۔ |
| Children are enjoying cartoons on television. | بچے ٹیلی ویژن پر کارٹونز سے لطف اندوز ہو رہے ہیں۔ |
Besides the use of these helping verbs, another change in the present progressive tense is the present participle form of the verb. The present participle is made by adding the suffix -ing at the end of 1st form of the verb.

Continuous Present Tense – Affirmative Sentences
The structure and examples of the assertive or affirmative sentences are as follows:

First Person
| I am going to summer classes this year. | میں اس سال سمر کلاسز میں جا رہا ہوں۔ |
| We are watching a horror movie. | ہم ایک ہارر فلم دیکھ رہے ہیں۔ |
Second Person
| You are waiting for the plane. | آپ ہوائی جہاز کا انتظار کر رہے ہیں۔ |
| You are going to have a surprise tomorrow. | کل آپ کو ایک سرپرائز ملنے والا ہے۔ |
Third Person
| Birds are chirping in the trees. | درختوں میں پرندے چہچہا رہے ہیں۔ |
| He is participating in a sports competition. | وہ کھیلوں کے مقابلے میں حصہ لے رہا ہے۔ |
Present Progressive Tense – Negative Sentences
The structure and examples of the negative or refusal sentences are as follows:
Structure
Subject + Auxiliary (is/am/are) + Not + Verb-ing (present participle) + Object.

First Person
| I am not going to summer classes this year. | میں اس سال سمر کلاسز میں نہیں جا رہا ہوں۔ |
| We are not watching a horror movie. | ہم کوئی ہارر فلم نہیں دیکھ رہے ہیں۔ |
Second Person
| You are not waiting for the plane. | آپ ہوائی جہاز کا انتظار نہیں کر رہے ہیں۔ |
| You are not going to have a surprise tomorrow. | کل آپ کو کوئی سرپرائز نہیں ہوگا۔ |
Third Person
| Birds are not chirping in the trees. | درختوں میں پرندے چہچہاتے نہیں۔ |
| He is not participating in a sports competition. | وہ کھیلوں کے مقابلے میں حصہ نہیں لے رہا ہے۔ |
Present Imperfect Tense – Interrogative Sentences
The structure and examples of the questioning or interrogative sentences are as follows:

Auxiliary (is/am/are) + Subject + Verb-ing (present participle) + Object.

First Person

Importance and Uses
Current Moments
The present continuous is used in several instances. Its most common use is to describe something that is happening at the exact moment of speech (e.g. “I’m working on my bachelor’s degree,” or “He’s sitting on the park bench right now with his feet up”).
موجودہ مسلسل کئی صورتوں میں استعمال ہوتا ہے۔ اس کا سب سے عام استعمال کسی ایسی چیز کو بیان کرنا ہے جو تقریر کے عین وقت پر ہو رہا ہے (جیسے “میں اپنی بیچلر ڈگری پر کام کر رہا ہوں” یا “وہ اس وقت پارک کے بینچ پر اپنے پاؤں اوپر کر کے بیٹھا ہے”)۔
Changing Situations
The present continuous tense is used to contrast with the simple present, which is used to refer to something that occurs habitually. (i.e. habits, unchanging situations, general truths, and fixed arrangements).
موجودہ مسلسل تناؤ کا استعمال سادہ موجود کے برعکس کرنے کے لیے کیا جاتا ہے، جو کسی ایسی چیز کا حوالہ دینے کے لیے استعمال ہوتا ہے جو عادتاً واقع ہوتی ہے (یعنی عادات، غیر متغیر حالات، عمومی سچائیاں، اور مقررہ انتظامات)۔
Temporary Activity
The present continuous is also used to describe a temporary activity. Even if it is not taking place at the exact moment of speech, or a temporary situation (e.g. “I am living with my parents for the summer,” or “He has been thinking about going vegan for some time now”). This contrasts with permanent activities or situations, which are described using the simple present tense
موجودہ مسلسل کا استعمال ایک عارضی سرگرمی کو بیان کرنے کے لیے بھی کیا جاتا ہے، چاہے یہ تقریر کے عین وقت پر نہیں ہو رہا ہو، یا کوئی عارضی صورت حال ہو (مثال کے طور پر “میں اپنے والدین کے ساتھ موسم گرما میں رہ رہا ہوں،” یا “وہ سوچ رہا ہے۔ ابھی کچھ عرصے کے لیے ویگن جانے کے بارے میں”)۔ یہ مستقل سرگرمیوں یا حالات سے متصادم ہے، جنہیں سادہ موجودہ دور کا استعمال کرتے ہوئے بیان کیا گیا ہے۔
